Welcome to Meadowbank

Built in 1882 and located in the heart of Rochester on St Margarets Street, near the Castle, Cathedral and Fort Clarence is Meadowbank.

A brief history

Mentioned in the Kelly’s Directory of Kent, 1882 (Page 452) – Smithe William – Meadowbank, Borstal Road.  The following link will take you to the directory listing: – http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/ref/collection/p16445coll4/id/278596

Speculation and to be researched.  St Margarets Street road was at some stage extended upwards and Borstal Road was moved so that it was located past Fort Clarence

The house along the street was built by the same owner / builder (Number 78 & 76).  These were built in 1859 and 1864.  Also number 82 was built before Meadowbank

Information from the previous owners & here say.  The house was built on request from a lady from London and her son.  It was derelict during the war years and renovated in the 1950’s”

Further information will follow in the coming years, when I have time to research further.  If you know of any information yourself, I would be delighted to hear from you and receive the information.
